AFC Bournemouth AFC Bournemouth

AFC Bournemouth maintained their 100 per cent winning start to 2023/24 with a convincing 4-0 victory over National League counterparts Southampton Women on Wednesday.

Lucy Cooper’s double and goals from skipper Gemma Hillier and defender Amber Treweek saw the Cherries take the points in front of another bumper crowd at Ringwood’s Long Lane.

Victory over the Sirens followed league wins against Selsey and Bridgwater United, Steve Cuss’s team also having knocked Bridgwater out of the National League Cup.

Cherries goalkeeper Daniela Kosinska was rarely tested as she kept a third clean sheet of the season, while her opposite number Grace Jenman made a series of outstanding saves to keep the hosts at bay.

Cooper opened and completed the scoring to take her tally for the season to three goals, while central defender Treweek added her second of the campaign.

And in doubling the Cherries’ lead in first-half stoppage time, captain Hillier became the 12th different player to score this season.

The Cherries, who currently top Division One South West on goal difference from Exeter City, host unbeaten Maidenhead United at Long Lane on Sunday 17th September (2pm kick-off and free entry).
