New head coach Andoni Iraola marked his first AFC Bournemouth pre-season friendly on English soil with victory over south coast neighbours Southampton.
Iraola saw the Cherries ease to a convincing 4-0 win over Hibernian in their first warm-up game before tasting defeat against Maccabi Tel Aviv during their training camp in Marbella.
First-half goals from Dango Ouattara and Ryan Christie gave the Cherries a 2-0 lead at St Mary’s before Shea Charles halved the deficit for Southampton on the stroke of half-time.
Although Stuart Armstrong came off the bench to restore parity for the hosts midway through the second half, David Brooks had the final say when he netted the winner four minutes from time.
