AFC Bournemouth Women’s development squad are confirmed as Invitation Cup finalists, as the side defeated Bursledon 7-0 at home last weekend.

Following on from back-to-back league wins, the Cherries looked confident from the start and, with just eleven minutes on the clock, took the lead. An excellent pass to the right-hand side from Chelsea Sheppard allowed Erin Thickett to run clear of her full-back, before producing an excellent low cross from Ayuma Asira to tap in at the back-post.

Continuing to press, AFC Bournemouth added to their lead in the 28th minute, when Asira dazzled forward and finished for a great solo goal.

A fine display saw the forward then complete her hattrick in the 34th minute when she once again raced onto a through-ball before producing a lob over the ‘keeper and tapping into an empty net.

The first half scoring would be concluded by Thickett, who raced onto a through ball before cooling slotting past the keeper into the bottom right-hand corner.

The Cherries continued the second half as they had finished the first, when substitute Sofia Sinaguglia had the opportunity to shine on the left-wing, producing the goal of the game. A cleared Bursledon corner fell to the Cherries winger in the mid-way point of her own half, before she dribbled the ball past her defender and smashed the ball low into the corner.

The sixth and seventh goals of the game were added by Sheppard and Emily Gard during the last five minutes to book the development squad their place in the Hampshire FA Invitation Cup final.

Coach David Staddon commented after the game, “This was a very pleasing performance from all the players today.”

“We now have a cup final to look forward to at the end of the season, but for now we go back to the league campaign where we want to ensure we keep pushing to achieve our goals.”
