AFC Bournemouth's women’s development squad travelled to Manchester at the weekend for the FA WNL Reserve Cup final.

The Cherries, who had already seen off Moneyfields, Swindon Town and Wolves on their way to the final, were set to face holders Oxford United in the final.

Despite a valiant effort, goals from Elle Elkins, Maddie Rook and Darcey Maxted were not enough to secure the victory as Oxford edged the game by a 4-3 scoreline.

The young Bournemouth side were trailing twice in the first half, but goals from Elkins and Maxted levelled things up to ensure neither side had an advantage at half-time.

On the hour mark, the Cherries took the lead for the first time through Rook, however the lead was short-lived as Oxford found an equaliser with a long-range effort.

Oxford regained the lead with just 12 minutes remaining and, despite Cherries pressure, the side were unable to find another goal.

Steve Cuss, head of community and women’s first team manager, told afcb.co.uk: “The National Cup final was a great experience for the players, with a fantastic performance on the day to end a very successful season. Congratulations to all the players and coaches.”

The women’s development squad finish the 2023/24 season as champions of the National League Reserve South West division and runners up of the league's reserve cup.
