Barron-Clark: Next game is all that matters

AFC Bournemouth women’s team midfielder Molly Barron-Clark knows they will need to be patient as they try to overcome Bridgwater United for a fourth time this season.

The Cherries will be bidding to maintain their unbeaten record in the National League when they face the Robins at Bridgwater & Taunton College on Sunday (2pm kick-off), the venue having changed so the game can be played on a 3G pitch.

Barron-Clark featured when the Cherries knocked Bridgwater out of the League Cup and FA Cup and was on target in their 3-1 win against them in the National League.

The Somerset outfit were relegated from the Southern Premier Division last season and are currently fifth in Division One South West, three places behind Steve Cuss’s team.

Previewing the clash, Barron-Clark told afcb.co.uk: “Bridgwater are a good side. They are well organised, they stay compact and are hard to break down.

“We just have to keep together, be positive, stay strong and stay calm if we are going to break them down. I’m sure we will be able to do that if we stick to the game-plan.”

Second-placed Cherries are currently eight points behind leaders Exeter City but with two games in hand.

Cuss’s team have six matches remaining, including visiting the Grecians on the final day of the season.

And while victory in their next five games would set up a title-decider in Devon on Sunday 5th May, Barron-Clark says the Cherries are looking no further than Bridgwater.

She added: “People have been asking me about this game and that game but you can only focus on the next game because that’s all that matters.

“To be honest, I don’t know where certain teams are in the league and we don’t need to concern ourselves with any of that.

“There’s no denying that we have to win every game and we know what our job is.

"But there’s no point thinking about two weeks’ time or the end of the season. We just need to think about the next game – and the next game is Bridgwater and that’s all we’re thinking about.

“In our last two games, we played in front of more than 6,000 people against Keynsham at Vitality Stadium and in front of a handful of people on a 3G pitch at Portishead.

“Although the surroundings were very different, the games are still the same and we always want to win.

“Regardless of where we’re playing, we’ve got to put on a performance and have the right attitude.”
