Cherries face Baggies in FA Youth Cup

AFC Bournemouth AFC Bournemouth

AFC Bournemouth will face West Bromwich Albion in the third round of this season’s FA Youth Cup.

The Cherries were handed an away tie in today’s draw and will travel to the Midlands in the next few weeks.

Although a date and venue have yet to be confirmed, the game must be played by Saturday 16th December 2023.

Currently ninth in the south group of the Under-18 Premier League table, the Baggies, who have category one academy status, were exempt until this stage of the competition.

The Cherries, elevated to category two at the start of this season, were edged out 2-1 by Liverpool in an entertaining third-round encounter at Vitality Stadium in December 2022.

They reached the quarter-finals of the competition for only the second time in their history in 2018/19 and were knocked out in the fifth round in 2019/20 and 2021/22.

Meanwhile, James Lowy’s team continue their Professional Development League campaign when they entertain Group South counterparts Charlton Athletic at Canford Park Arena tomorrow (noon kick-off).

The Cherries meet the Addicks on the back of two impressive displays in the past few days, a league win over Ipswich Town and victory over Southampton in a friendly.

Kash Kasukumya and Jonny Stuttle were on target as they triumphed 2-1 against Southampton at Staplewood on Wednesday, while Remy Rees-Dottin bagged the only goal against the Blues last Saturday at Canford Park Arena.
