Dominic Solanke leads the line against his former club as AFC Bournemouth bid to reach the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup for the fourth time in their history.

Solanke, who came off the bench to net in the third-round win against Stoke, joined the Cherries from Liverpool in January 2019 after spending 18 months at Anfield.

The striker is one of eight players to keep his place following Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Burnley with head coach Andoni Iraola naming a strong team against the nine-time competition winners.

Adam Smith, Milos Kerkez and Justin Kluivert, who were all among the substitutes against the Clarets, are restored to the Cherries starting line-up.

Hamed Traorè, who was on target in the second-round win against Swansea, is on the bench, as is goalkeeper Cam Plain who recently kept sixth successive clean sheets for the development squad.

Luis Sinisterra and Mark Travers are both ineligible having played in the competition this season for Leeds and Stoke, respectively, while Lewis Cook serves the second of a three-match ban following his red card in the Premier League against Wolves.

Liverpool knocked out the Cherries when they first reached the quarter-finals in 2014/15, the Dorset club eliminated by Chelsea when they progressed to the last eight in 2017/18 and 2018/19.

The teams have met twice in the League Cup in recent seasons, Brendan Rodgers overseeing their 3-1 win at Vitality Stadium in 2014/15 and Jürgen Klopp earning his first win as Liverpool boss when Nathaniel Clyne’s maiden goal for the club saw the Cherries exit at Anfield in the fourth round in 2015/16.

Klopp’s team set up a trip to Vitality Stadium after coming from behind at Anfield to see off Championship leaders Leicester City in the third round thanks to goals from Cody Gakpo, Dominik Szoboszlai and Diogo Jota.
