AFC Bournemouth AFC Bournemouth

Alex Scott has become the Cherries’ latest summer signing, bolstering Andoni Iraola’s midfield options.

Scott arrives from Championship side Bristol City having made over 90 senior appearances for the Robins.

At just 19 years old, the middleman represents another highly-rated youngster to arrive at Vitality Stadium.

Here are five things you might not have known about Scott…

1. Island roots

The midfielder has a somewhat unique place of birth having been born and raised on the Channel Island of Guernsey.

Born in August 2003, Scott lived on the island until moving to Bristol in early 2020.

With a population of around 65,000 people, Guernsey is not part of the United Kingdom, although the British monarch is the head of state.

2. Record setting from an early age

Before signing for Bristol City, Scott got his early footballing experience with Isthmian League side Guernsey FC.

The midfielder became the Green Lions’ youngest-ever player when he made his debut for the side as a 16-year-old in August 2019.

Even at that age, the youngster went on to be described by Guernsey boss Tony Vance as “a class act” before he departed for Bristol City four months later.

3. European champion

As his first-team involvement with the Robins grew, so too did his appearances for the sides in the England youth setup.

With 22 outings under his belt for young Three Lions teams, the pinnacle of Scott’s international career so far came in the form of a European U19 Championship triumph in the summer of 2022.

The midfielder played in every game of England’s route to their victory in the final against Israel, and he netted the equalising goal in the 2-1 semi-final win over Italy.

4. EFL award winner

Following an impressive 2022/23 campaign for the middleman, he picked up the EFL Championship Young Player of the Season award.

Scott scored once and assisted five goals over 42 second-tier appearances on route to claiming the accolade.

The 19-year-old’s achievement was complimented by the Championship’s Young Player of the Month award in February and a spot in the league’s Team of the Season.

5. Unrivalled acclaim

On route to collecting the FA Cup as part of their 2022/23 treble win, Manchester City defeated the Robins by a 3-0 scoreline.

Despite the loss, Scott still managed to impress both the opposition players and manager alike.

Pep Guardiola described the midfielder as an “unbelievable player,” while Jack Grealish tweeted about him: “top, top talent”.
