Two-year extension for Terrell

Development squad goalkeeper Billy Terrell has agreed a two-year contract extension with AFC Bournemouth.

The young stopper’s extension keeps him with the Cherries until at least the summer of 2025.

Terrell told afcb.co.uk: “It’s a proud moment for me and my family because this is what you work for every day.

“To get an extension with the club is something that I’m very grateful for. I feel really privileged.

“There have been many hard times and many good, being involved with the first team is up there, as is going out on loan. It all comes into play.”

The agreement comes following a campaign in which he’s regularly featured for Alan Connell’s development squad, most recently playing a big role in his side’s shoot-out victory over Tadley Calleva in the Hampshire Senior Cup.

Beginning his academy journey with Portsmouth, the goalkeeper also spent time with Southampton before joining the Cherries as a 15-year-old.

He then impressed over a two-year scholarship in the under-18s before progressing to the higher age category at the beginning of the 2021/22 campaign.

The summer of 2022 proved one to remember for Terrell, who signed his first professional contract with the club before attending an England men’s goalkeeping development camp at St George's Park.

The stopper’s experience on the pitch has also been bolstered by loans with non-league outfits Wimborne Town and Weymouth.

“When you look at the likes of Mark Travers and Aaron Ramsdale, they made their Premier League debuts at such a young age. They’re the people for me to look at,” Terrell said on his progression with the Cherries.

“If you look at lots of the goalkeepers that have come through here and played for the club, it’s unbelievable really.

“With the standard of goalkeepers, here is exactly where you want to be and be in and around those big characters.”
