Shaun Cooper has been speaking with afcb.co.uk after his side were defeated 3-1 by Fulham in a friendly at Canford Arena this afternoon.
Christian Saydee got the Cherries’ only goal of the afternoon, as Fulham went away with the win after three second half strikes.
Following the game, the former defender touched on the following points:
The performance
I thought it was nice for a lot of the lads to get the minutes they needed under their belt.
Obviously, our last friendly had been called off, so from a fitness perspective it was good.
Technically, we were below our expected levels today and I’d say we paid the price for that. In fairness, both teams should’ve scored more goals today, there were a lot of chances but I know the lads are disappointed with their technical levels today.
It’s nothing to worry about though – we’ve got a lot of pre-season games to come and it won’t happen again.
Pre-season regime
It’s been a tricky one. I’ve not had many of the boys with me, a few had to isolate because of Covid, so it’s been a little bit messy within our department.
Pre-season is physically demanding for everyone, but as we know the first team are pushing the lads involved with them very hard.
Some that were involved last night would’ve had a lot of excitement and adrenaline coming on. They then had to come here today and I thought their attitudes and application was spot on.
They did get a bit leggy at the end, but that’s to be expected in pre-season.
Playing senior sides
The games to come will be a good test, but also a good opportunity for the boys, especially off the back of what Sam Sherring did for Torquay last year.
It’s a good chance to go and impress good teams, with the view to a potential loan for certain individuals. As I said, physically they’re in good shape and they’re bang up for it.
Overall, the boys have been in a really good place physically and laying a really good foundation for the rest of the season.
