AFC Bournemouth AFC Bournemouth

Last weekend, AFC Bournemouth girls returned to action, with three out of the four sides in action.

The under-10 and under-12 girls hosted their League Cup semi-final fixtures, whilst the under-14s played Portsmouth University in a Hampshire Girls League fixture.

Under-10s

The Cherries’ youngest age group have secured their place in the Hampshire Girls League Cup final in spectacular fashion, winning against Whiteley Whites. The team were superb from start to finish, both in and out of possession.

Their training in the week had looked at creating passing lines and creating goal-scoring opportunities, which was seen throughout. In particular, it was highlighted in a move which saw the side play out from Pearl in goal, all the way up the pitch to Krystal, who found the net after a great team move.

Whiteley made it difficult for the girls, who had to be patient with the ball to create their opportunities. When these opportunities did come, some brilliant finishing saw ten different AFC Bournemouth players get their names on the scoresheet.

Under-12s

The under-12 girls hosted Southampton Women for their League Cup semi-final, a game which was close throughout.

Both teams played well and made it difficult for the opposition to create any goalscoring opportunities.

It would be the Cherries who opened the scoring however, when Holly made a great run through the Southampton defence and slotted the ball home. Making it even at the break, Southampton pulled a goal back just before the half-time whistle.

The second half saw the Cherries have plenty of the ball, but not taking their chances. As the clock started to run down, AFC Bournemouth upped the pressure, with goalkeeper Maddie showing great leadership.

Aimee C. added two second-half goals to secure a 3-1 victory for the side. Her most notable goal was the latter, where she powerfully shot into the far corner and past the on-rushing Southampton goalkeeper.

Under-14s

On a neighbouring pitch, the Cherries under-14 girls hosted Portsmouth University in their 13th league game of the season.

The home side got off to a great start, scoring their first goal with just 34 seconds on the clock as Lucy finished well from close range. This set the tone for the game, as the Cherries went on to dominate possession for long spells.

Pleasingly, this game saw another victory for the girls, who are unbeaten in all their league fixtures this season, with Lucy maintaining her place as the league’s top goalscorer having added another four goals to her collection during this game.

Other goals were scored by Hannah F., Freya, Sophie D., Georgia and Sophie M.
