AFC Bournemouth are delighted to announce that local girl Martha Sharp has been selected as the club's Community Captain.
As part of the Premier League's ‘More Than A Game’ campaign, which showcases how its wide-ranging investment into all levels of football enables people connected to clubs to have a positive impact on their local communities, clubs were asked to name a Community Captain.
A Community Captain is somebody at the heart of the Premier League-funded programmes, who deserves recognition for their commitment and contribution to the game and society.
Martha has a long-standing relationship with the Community Sports Trust, which began when she participated in sessions with her school and then separately on weekends.
A regular attendee of the Premier League Kicks programme, Martha was also enrolled in the Premier League Change Makers programme during the 2021/22 season.
For a number of years, Martha has volunteered with the Community Sports Trust on weekends, coaching at the Minikickers session and supporting the Trust with their delivery to the four and five year olds.
Head of Community, Steve Cuss, spoke to afcb.co.uk about Martha and her contribution to the Trust: “Martha is an exceptional young person, who we have seen grow through opportunities available with AFC Bournemouth's Community Sports Trust and the Premier League.
“I am very pleased to be able to name Martha as our Community Captain and enjoyed celebrating her achievements at the game with Manchester City.”
A presentation was held ahead of kick-off, where Martha was announced to the crowd, before receiving her award from men's and women's players, Max Aarons and Katie James.
