Over the Easter holidays, two teams of under-16 Premier League Kicks players represented AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League Kicks Cup.

The teams travelled to Swindon Town’s County Ground for their fixtures, where they faced youngsters representing Exeter City, Bristol City, Forest Green Rovers, Cardiff City, Swansea City and the hosts.

Following three successive fixtures in the group stages, the girls progressed to the semi-final, where they were beaten 1-0 by Swansea.

The boys team won four of their five fixtures, picking up a draw in the other, which saw them progress to the semi-final. A semi-final win placed them against Cardiff in the final, where they were beaten by a single goal.

Despite losing in the semi-final and final, both Cherries teams have secured their spot in the finals day. Alongside that, the girls were also successful in winning the Fair Play award.

The teams now look forward to travelling to St George’s Park in the summer for the Premier League Kicks Cup finals.

Speaking after the event, head of community Steve Cuss told afcb.co.uk: “We were delighted to be part of the Premier League Kicks festival. The players from our weekly sessions represented AFC Bournemouth outstandingly well, both on and off the pitch, and all enjoyed the occasion.”
