Sam Sherring's Torquay United continued their assault on the National League with a brilliant away win at the weekend, one of four Cherries loanees in action.

The Devon side made a round trip of over 700 miles from the south west to the north east on Saturday as they took on Hartlepool United looking to solidify their place at the top of the National League table, a position they grabbed last midweek.

A devastating away performance did just that, Sherring playing 90 minutes and keeping a clean sheet as they won 5-0 at Victoria Park.

Former Cherries player Ben Whitfield was among the scorers as the Gulls surged five points clear in the early running.

There was a further good result for Brian Stock's Weymouth, who came from behind to claim their second league win of the season, a 2-1 win at high-flying Stockport.

Brennan Camp and Corey Jordan both started for the Terras at Edgeley Park, though Camp needed to be replaced after just 30 minutes with a head injury.

A goal down at the break a late headed winner from Tom Whelan moved Weymouth up to 14th in the National League standings.

League Two

Kyle Taylor played 65 minutes but Southend United were unable to arrest their recent form in a 2-0 loss to Port Vale at Roots Hall.

The Shrimpers remain bottom of the table with former Cherries player and coach Mark Molesley commenting after the game: “There wasn't much between the two teams. On a sticky, rainy, windy, slippery day, you’ve got to do the basics right and we’ve come up a little bit short on that."

Elsewhere, Jake Scrimshaw was an unused substitute for Walsall as they levelled just after the break though Elijah Adebayo to draw 1-1 away at Mansfield Town.

National League South

The Wimborne Town first team is currently self-isolating, meaning goalkeeper Billy Terrell was without a game at the weekend, their FA Trophy match at Thame United called off.
