AFC Bournemouth are pleased to announce that Cherry Tree Nursery, Dorset Children’s Foundation, the Fortune Centre of Riding Therapy, and Dorset Cancer Care will be the club’s nominated charity partnerships for the upcoming 2017/18 season.

Local charities were invited to apply via afcb.co.uk earlier this summer before supporters, Junior Cherries and club staff were invited to vote for the shortlisted charity of their choice.

Each of the four charities will receive profile-raising player appearances, signed merchandise and club media support.

AFC Bournemouth Commercial Director Rob Mitchell spoke of his excitement at working with the organisations: “We are delighted to be working with four fantastic local charities this season.

“We are committed to doing all we can to help charities and worthy causes in the local area.”

The four charities are:

Cherry Tree Nursery - Supporters’ Charity

Cherry Tree Nursery was set up to provide sheltered work rehabilitation based on horticulture, in a supportive but realistic working environment, for people with mental illness.

The charity’s aim is to create a loving community for people who often feel frightened, lonely and powerless.

The Dorset Children’s Foundation - Junior Cherries Charity

The Dorset Children’s Foundation was set up to improve the lives of local sick and disabled children. They provide funding for mobility equipment, medical expenses and therapies not funded by the NHS.

The Foundation holds the old-fashioned values of keeping their overheads to a minimum, with three charity shops covering all overheads, so that every penny raised goes directly to supporting local children.

The Fortune Centre of Riding Therapy - Club Charity

The Fortune Centre of Riding Therapy provides a three-year residential course and weekly riding therapy sessions for young people with learning difficulties and disabilities.

Horses provide the opportunity to learn in a way that is appropriate for a student’s mental age. It enables them to feel and experience learning, which makes it easier for them to take information on board. Horses can build confidence and help teach people to look after themselves, to communicate, travel independently, manage money and time – all the basic skills they need for everyday life.
