AFC Bournemouth women ended their pre-season campaign with a 3-2 win over Charlton Athletic's under-21s.
Elle Elkins bagged for the Cherries, alongside two traillists, as Steve Cuss' side prepare for their opening match of the season away to Selsey on Sunday.
Following the final run out for his team, he sat down with afcb.co.uk and discussed the following topics:
The performance...
It was a really good game, thanks to Charlton's under-21s for stepping in and playing us at short notice. It was a hugely competitive game and a good one for us to complete our pre-season with. They were strong physically and very good technically, so they gave us a really good challenge. I was really pleased with the workout to end our pre-season programme.
The pre-season...
I was really pleased yesterday. I thought everyone looked stronger than you would expect at the start of pre-season. I think that was reflected in the fact that we were leading and got pegged back twice, but we kept on going and found the extra strength. We showed good resilience to then finally come back out on top to win the game. Obviously in pre-season, winning the game doesn't really matter but it builds a strong mentality. I was really pleased with the fitness levels and resilience shown.
The squad...
I think it's like all teams, you have your pre-season programme and a number of new faces that have settled into the squad really well. Now we're just really excited to get the season going. We have a busy week ahead of planning and organising ready for that first game away to Selsey on the weekend.
