Match report, as the AFC Bournemouth U18s come from two goals down to win at Plymouth Argyle.
AFC Bournemouth U18s came from two goals behind to beat Plymouth Argyle U18s 3-2 in the EFL Youth Alliance Cup on Tuesday.
Two early goals for the home side meant the Cherries found themselves on the backfoot despite an even opening period. Forward Christian Saydee pulled one back with an acrobatic overhead kick on the brink of half time.
Tom Dinsmore found the equaliser in the second half with a long-range strike into the top corner, before Tom Hanfrey was on hand with a low, left-footed finish to grab a late winner for AFC Bournemouth, sending them through to the next round of the cup.
Speaking to afcb.co.uk, manager Alan Connell discussed his pride in his side’s performance: “I’m really pleased with the players’ attitude, character and quality in the face of adversity.
“The first team at this club have been excellent at coming from behind in games and I think that comes from the drive and spirit here.
“The U18s won the Youth Alliance Cup two years ago. A lot of those players are in the U21s now, and Kyle Taylor’s in and around the first team, so it was a great springboard for them. That’s why I want the current group of lads to go on a good cup run in high-pressure games.”
