Gemma McGuinness

Position:
Forward
Date of birth:
7th August 1995
Nationality:
Irish
Previous clubs:
Galway United

Gemma McGuinness joined AFC Bournemouth with plenty of experience in the summer of 2023.

Having played the majority of her career in the Irish leagues, representing Derry City, Sligo Rovers and Galway United, she made the move to England for a new challenge.

In 2022/23, she enjoyed one of her most successful seasons to date, playing an integral part of Galway’s inaugural season in the Irish Women’s Premier Division.

The forward helped the side go all the way in the Avenir Sports All Ireland Cup, scoring the winning penalty in the semi-final, before bagging the all-important strike in a 1-0 victory over Cliftonville in the final. It was the club’s first piece of silverware in 25 years.

A brief loan spell at Keynsham, while she was over in England with her work as a nutritionist, saw McGuinness catch the eye of the Cherries and she put pen to paper on the south coast in July 2023.

Internationally, McGuinness has represented the Republic of Ireland at youth level and earned a cap for Northern Ireland at senior level.
