Alisha Buckingham marked her birthday in perfect fashion as she found the back of the net in AFC Bournemouth women's win over Bridgwater United.

The forward turned 24 on Sunday and celebrated by drilling a low effort beyond the goalkeeper for the first goal of the game.

The day was made complete by efforts from Molly Clark and Molly Gladwell, who ensured the Cherries earned all three points.

Speaking to afcb.co.uk, she said: "Playing on my birthday was a great feeling!

"Most people would rather be out celebrating but I couldn’t have wished for it to be any other way and to get a goal made it all worth it.

"We dominated the game but didn’t play our best, however it feels great to get the 3 points and learn from it."

Buckingham has quickly settled into life with the Cherries, having signed for the club during the summer from Southampton.

With three goals in three games, Buckingham is proving to be an important part of Steve Cuss' squad and she's truly loving life at the club.

She continued: "This club is amazing and it is the best decision I have made!

"The girls have been so welcoming, the management and staff are incredible in what they do and the fans are so supportive. I can’t wait to spend the rest of the season and hopefully more here.

"The confidence within the team is sky high, however we know that there are things we still need to work on, so we are looking to constantly improve our performance week by week."

She concludes by taking a moment to highlight her teammates, who are continuing to put in some excellent performances.

The other two scorers in the Bridgwater win show the depth in the squad, with Clark and Gladwell sitting on either end of the experience scale but both contributing with goals.

Buckingham added: "The two Mollys getting on the scoresheet shows the depth that we have in our team with Molly Clark being one of our most experienced players and Molly Gladwell being one of our youngest players.

"I am massively impressed with my teammates and it is such a pleasure to share the same pitch with them!"
