Under-18s lead coach James Lowy discussed the challenge of stepping up to category two on the eve of his side facing Hull City.
The Cherries welcome the Tigers to Canford Park Arena on Saturday morning four games into their Professional Development League campaign.
Having won two and lost two of those opening four, Lowy discussed the step up in quality for his players.
He told afcb.co.uk: “It’s been a great challenge for the academy stepping up to category two status.
“It has provided excellent opportunities and experiences for the group in really competitive games which is great for their development.”
With not only a step up in ability, the team is also experiencing regular overnight stays up and down the country.
Last time out, the team stayed over in Sheffield ahead of a defeat to Sheffield Wednesday, producing valuable learning opportunities for the age group.
“It’s definitely been a realisation for the players that every day is an opportunity to learn and improve with the level of opposition we’re facing every week,” the lead coach shared.
“For us as a group and as an academy, these are the sorts of games and level of competition we want to be facing every week.”
Kick-off against Hull at Canford on Saturday morning is scheduled for 11am.
