Proud Jonny Day labelled the past 10 days of his footballing life as a “great experience” as he continues to learn in the AFC Bournemouth academy.

The forward, 15, continued a memorable spell by netting the winner for James Lowy’s under-18s at Millwall on Wednesday.

That goal came after Day scored in the FA Youth Cup for the Cherries against Tottenham last week.

In between those strikes, the youngster also made his first appearance for Alan Connell’s development squad, coming off the bench in the latter stages of a 4-0 victory at Folland Sports.

Reflecting on his recent achievements, Day told afcb.co.uk: “It’s been a great experience.

“I have been at the club since under-9s and to make my 21s debut and score in the Youth Cup is a really proud moment for me.

“Seeing where I have come from and how I have improved in recent years, it’s really, really good.

“When I was growing up, I always supported Bournemouth. It’s my local team and to play where I am, I am really proud.

“All my friends and family are Bournemouth fans, so it’s great to represent the club.”

Day’s most recent goal against the Lions capped a 2-1 comeback victory for the Cherries, putting the under-18s fifth in the Professional Development League.

“I think coming to Millwall we knew it would be tough. They are a good team and I think we did well,” said Day.

“We were under pressure in the second half for quite a while and going down in the first half, we reacted well. To get the win was a great result.

“It was a young squad and the pitch was not what we were used to but it’s great to get a win. We fought really well and it’s great to get a goal.”

Lowy’s side are next in action when they visit Ipswich Town on Saturday.

Asked what it was like to be part of the under-18s group, Day replied: “It’s good learning.

“They are a lot older and they’ve got a lot of experience in these types of games. Learning from them can really improve my game.”
