AFC Bournemouth AFC Bournemouth

AFC Bournemouth had eight first-team players play for their international teams on Tuesday, with a first start, a heart-breaking penalties defeat and a Euro 2024 qualification just some of the headlines.

Here is the round-up of Tuesday’s international action…

ILLIA ZABARNYI

Defender Zabarnyi played another pivotal role in Ukraine beating Iceland 2-1 to qualify for Euro 2024.

They trailed 1-0 at the break but a second-half turnaround saw Viktor Tsygankov and Chelsea forward Mykhailo Mudryk score – with the latter netting a late winner.

Zabarnyi was in top form again to help Ukraine get back into the game with some more solid defensive work.

As a result, Ukraine will fill the final spot of Group E at the Euro 2024 finals, joining Belgium, Slovakia and Romania.

ALEX SCOTT

Midfielder Scott made his first start for England’s under-21s and got his first assist for the Young Lions just 23 minutes into his full debut against Luxembourg.

Scott played a pass for Chelsea wideman Noni Madueke to touch and finish in the penalty area.

Six more goals followed as Scott played the entire 90 minutes in front of more than 11,500 supporters at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.

Lee Carsley’s side remain second in the group, level on points with Ukraine.

The winners of the nine qualifying groups automatically go through to the tournament, with the three best runners-up also earning a spot.

The other six teams that finish second will compete for the three remaining places in November.

CHRIS MEPHAM, DAVID BROOKS, KIEFFER MOORE

Wales were agonisingly denied a Euro 2024 place as they were narrowly beaten on penalties by Poland in Cardiff.

It was a first-ever penalty shootout for Wales with Mepham, Brooks and Moore all playing their part in the 120 minutes at Cardiff City Stadium.

The game finished 0-0, with Moore playing the entire normal and extra-time, Mepham playing 120 minutes before picking up a second yellow card and Brooks coming on with six minutes to go in normal time, before being replaced in the 112th minute.

Poland now join France, the Netherlands and Austria in Group D at the Euros in Germany.

ANTOINE SEMENYO

In an international friendly, Semenyo played 90 minutes as Ghana drew 2-2 with Uganda.

Played in Morocco, Jerome Opoku and Crystal Palace striker Jordan Ayew netted for the Black Stars.

Semenyo will now look forward to World Cup qualifiers in June, when Ghana take on Mali and Central African Republic.

RYAN CHRISTIE

Christie played 78 minutes as Scotland continued their Euro 2024 preparations with a friendly defeat to Northern Ireland.

The Scots were beaten 1-0 as Liverpool defender Conor Bradley scored his first international goal.

Scotland return to action in June with two final Euro 2024 warm-up games with Gibraltar and Finland, before facing hosts Germany, Switzerland and Hungary in Group A of the finals.

DANGO OUATTARA

Ouattara played in Burkina Faso’s 1-1 friendly draw with Niger as they prepare for their World Cup qualification campaign that kicks off in June.

In the June international fixtures, Ouattara will be preparing to face Egypt and Sierra Leone.
