AFC Bournemouth were given another stern pre-season test as established Serie A outfit Atalanta triumphed 3-1 at Vitality Stadium on Saturday.
Since experienced head coach Gian Piero Gasperini took charge in 2016, Atalanta have not finished outside of the top eight in Italy’s top flight, coming third on three occasions.
And although they forged 2-0 ahead thanks to goals from Joakim Mæhle and Teun Koopmeiners, Marcos Senesi pegged them back before half-time.
Senesi hammered home the loose ball after Dom Solanke’s header had been cleared off the line by Mæhle in the 38th minute.
Both teams made wholesale changes during the second half, including a debut for new Cherries signing Andrei Radu, the goalkeeper replacing Neto at the interval.
Emmanuel Latte Lath completed the scoring late on for the visitors, the Cherries hosting Ligue 1 Lorient in their final friendly next Saturday (5pm kick-off).
