AFC Bournemouth were defeated 5-2 by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Manchester United at Old Trafford this afternoon.

The Cherries took the lead within 15 minutes, as Junior Stanislas' neat finish caught out David De Gea from close-range.

However, the hosts soon responded with a goal from Mason Greenwood and a Marcus Rashford penalty, after the ball had hit Adam Smith on the arm inside the area.

Anthony Martial then struck a curling effort into the top-corner moments before Mike Dean blew his whistle, giving United a 3-1 lead at half-time.

In a fast start to the second half, the referee then awarded his second penalty of the day, this time substitute Eric Bailly being penalised for a raised arm in the box. Joshua King stepped up and duly converted.

Arnaut Danjuma, on at half-time, almost produced a perfect comeback minutes later, but the linesman's flag prevented his low finish from standing.

A second goal of the afternoon for Greenwood, followed by a Bruno Fernandes free-kick, saw United extend their lead and secure the three points at Old Trafford.
