Andoni Iraola was named AFC Bournemouth head coach this afternoon, becoming the first overseas manager to take charge at Vitality Stadium.

The 40-year-old enjoyed a prominent playing career, making 510 appearances for La Liga side Athletic Bilbao, scoring 38 goals.

He retired following a spell with New York City in MLS, playing alongside Frank Lampard, Andrea Pirlo and David Villa.

His first managerial role was with AEK Larnaca, leading the side to their first ever Cypriot Super Cup title in 2018.

In July 2019, Iraola was named at the helm of CD Mirandés, a newly promoted Sugunda División side.

He secured a 11th position finish in his sole season in charge and taking the team to the semi-finals of the Spanish Cup for just the second time in their 92-year history.

In his most recent job, Iraola led Rayo Vallecano to promotion to La Liga in his debut season, before securing 12th and 11th placed finishes with one of the smallest budgets in the division.
