First team surprise U12 girls for IWD

AFC Bournemouth AFC Bournemouth

AFC Bournemouth's under-12 girls were given the surprise of a lifetime during February half-term in celebration of International Women's Day.

Taking part in a routine training session at Vitality Stadium, community coaches put them through their paces with ball skills and small sided games as they continue to compete in local league and cup competitions this season.

As training came to an end, the participants were winding down from the morning when 16 members of the AFC Bournemouth squad emerged from their session, which had been taking place the other side of the fence.

Having just completed their own training, the lads were introduced to the whole team and were on hand to participate in a unique question and answer session.

They talked about their experiences growing up and who their toughest opponent had been.

Following the chat, the girls were invited inside to enjoy lunch with the team, as they got the opportunity to speak with them more about their careers and life away from football.

Steve Cuss, Head of AFC Bournemouth's Community Sports Trust, spoke on the event afterwards.

"It's a special treat to be able to train alongside each other. We were in the middle of the coaching session and the players were just finishing theirs, so they came to say hello.

"It was a fantastic opportunity for the girls to ask some questions about life in general and what they've been doing in training over the other side of the fence."
