AFC Bournemouth’s unforgettable 4-3 victory over Luton Town has earned the club the Premier League’s Most Improbable Comeback award for 2023/24.

The Cherries staged one of the greatest fightbacks in top-flight history after coming from 3-0 down to beat the Hatters on a memorable March night at Vitality Stadium.

Andoni Iraola’s team were left with a mountain to climb after goals from Tahith Chong, Chiedozie Ogbene and Ross Barkley had seen the visitors reach the break in the ascendancy.

However, Dominic Solanke’s stunning individual strike sparked the comeback early in the second half before Illia Zabarnyi’s first Premier League goal made it 3-2 after 62 minutes.

The points were sealed by Antoine Semenyo’s blistering double as the triumph saw the Cherries become only the fifth team in Premier League history to win after overturning a 3-0 deficit.

It was also only the third time in the top-flight era that a team had won a match in which they trailed by three goals at half-time, Manchester United (2001) and Wolves (2003) having achieved the feat.

The Most Improbable Comeback award is presented to the team which comes back to win from the highest likelihood of losing during a Premier League game every season.

It was also won by the Cherries in 2022/23 when goals from Phil Billing, Solanke and Jaidon Anthony saw them hit back to triumph 3-2 against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

The award, which was presented to Semenyo at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, is powered by Oracle, the Premier League’s official cloud provider.
