Interim development squad coach Bruce Suraci and skipper Ben Greenwood faced the media during a joint press conference following AFC Bournemouth’s Premier League Cup defeat by Brighton on Saturday.

They fielded a series of questions from the Daily Echo’s Jack Tanner and a group of journalism students from Bournemouth University who had watched the game.

Here are a selection of some of the questions and answers.

Question: Would you agree a five or ten-minute spell in the first half decided the game?

Bruce Suraci: "The game ebbed and flowed. I think if we’re completely honest, we were under the cosh for big parts of the first half and I wouldn’t say the two goals were undeserved from their perspective.

"But to give credit to our lads, we’ve spoken about staying engaged and controlling what you can and I thought the boys did that really well.

"At 2-0 down, it’s easy for it to go three or four. It didn’t happen and I can’t credit the boys enough for the second half.

"They came out and pressed better, a bit more aggressive, they dealt with the late runners and, as a result, that gave us momentum which meant we possessed the ball in their half.

"From our perspective, the progress, the performance and the growth that the lads will have from today from dealing with the pressure and being 2-0 down is fantastic so it was a really good day for us overall."

Question: What was the message at half-time – was it a case of resetting?

Ben Greenwood: "We identified that we were under the cosh. We identified where we could tweak and we talked about backing each other up.

"In the second half, I thought that showed by the number of times we won it back in their half. We probably could have scored a couple as well."

Discussing Cameron Plain’s man-of-the-match performance.

Bruce Suraci: "He’s a great lad who has been with us through the academy.

"He is technically very good, he’s aggressive, he reads the game well and communicates well.

"Cam has been brilliant with us in training so, to be honest, I wouldn’t have expected anything different."

Question: Have you noticed an improvement with him being in the first-team squad on matchdays?

Ben Greenwood: "Every time you are exposed to it, you grow a bit.

"When you come back down as such, because Cam has been with them for so long, you come back down with that presence.

"Being in the back line today, you could feel the presence behind you whether that was with his voice or how commanding he was.

"He’s a great goalie and I didn’t expect anything less from him."

On the tremendous support.

Bruce Suraci: "We can’t thank the fans enough for taking the time to come here today.

"Without them, you don’t create the atmosphere and you don’t create the pressure and the support was brilliant. I just want to say how thankful we are that they took the time to come."

Questions: What positives can you take from today?

Ben Greenwood: "I spoke to the lads before the game about being together and we really showed that. No-one went down without a teammate helping them.

"There was a real togetherness out there and I’m sure that showed. We’ve got to take that into every game now.

"It’s something we’ve been working on with the young boys coming up, people coming back from loans and stuff like that.

"But if we could have a real togetherness about us, I think the next games will be right up there."

Question: Are you still confident of progressing from the group?

Bruce Suraci: "The games are going to be brilliant for the boys. We’ve got a rapid succession and it’s going to be a great chance for the lads to be under pressure.

"I’m under no illusions, there is a lot of quality in the group. Technically, tactically and physically, we’ve got some really good players.

"When we’re at full tilt, I think we’ve got a really good chance of progressing.

"But again, the main point for me is exposure for these boys to competitive games where points matter and there is a need to get through."
