AFC Bournemouth
After five months out with injury, young striker Euan Pollock couldn’t wait to be back out on that pitch as the under-21s hosted Rising Ballers Academy at Canford yesterday.
A fine goal from the forward, which saw him round the ‘keeper and coolly slot home in the first half, helped Shaun Cooper’s side to a 2-0 win, Matt Burgess getting the game’s only other goal.
For Pollock, while it might have been his first strike of the season, he explained how it meant much more than that, as he looks to make his mark now fully fit and having stepped up an age group.
Following the game, he spoke with afcb.co.uk about the following topics:
The first pre-season fixture
“It was a good game and it was good to get 50 minutes under my belt because I haven’t played in five months.
“It’s been quite a tough time mentally for me but it was a great feeling to score and get back out onto the pitch.
“It was the best feeling when that ball hit the back of the net. I roared when it went in because it just felt so good!
“I just want to play more games and hopefully in the next one I can get another goal and kick on.”
Recovering from injury
“I feel good! I had another niggle in the off season which set me back a week or two but now I feel fine.
“I’ve been working hard with the boys and I feel sharp - I’m ready to get into a big season for me.
“Pre-season is huge to get physically ready and I want to be pushing onto the first team, so I’ve got to be in good shape.
“We’ve got the new manager that’s come in and I’ve spoken to some of the boys and they’ve said it’s really hard work out there, so I’m working hard and feeling good.”
Goals and ambitions
“All our goals are the same – we want to reach the first team.
“With the new manager, it looks like he puts a lot of trust in youth, so it’s a big season for me as I want to be in and around the first team.
“We’ve got more hard work ahead, more opportunities to get games under our belts and I’m really looking forward to it."
