Kian Tydeman came off the bench to grab a late consolation as AFC Bournemouth suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Professional Development League counterparts Ipswich Town on Tuesday.

Home supporters among a crowd of more than 2,200 at Vitality Stadium had been hoping to see the Cherries extend to 13 games their unbeaten run in all competitions.

And after winning seven and drawing one of their previous eight games in the league, the Cherries were bidding to go top of the Group South table.

But they were chasing the game from as early as the 13th minute when Matty O’Connor headed home the opening goal for the visitors.

Ipswich extended their lead courtesy of second-half goals from Osman Foyo and Matty Roberts before Tydeman reduced the arrears 11 minutes from time.

Although the Cherries created some presentable chances in the closing stages, they were unable to prevent Ipswich from taking all three points back to Suffolk.

The Cherries will be hoping to qualify for the last 16 of the Premier League Cup when they host Charlton Athletic at Wimborne Town's New Cuthbury on Sunday (1pm kick-off). Entry is free.
