AFC Bournemouth stole a march on rivals Norwich City in the race for top spot in Group C of the Premier League Cup after triumphing 4-0 against Charlton Athletic on Saturday.
Victory saw the Cherries move three points clear of the second-placed Canaries with the teams doing battle in their final group game at Wimborne’s New Cuthbury on 3rd February.
Norwich will need to win and overturn a six-goal swing in goal difference to prevent Alan Connell’s team earning home advantage in the knockout stage of the competition.
The Cherries booked their place in the last 16 thanks to an emphatic 5-1 win over Wolves on Monday and followed up with another impressive display against the Addicks.
Goals from Dan Adu-Adjei, Balraj Landa and Dominic Sadi saw the Cherries race into a 3-0 lead after just 15 minutes in front of a healthy crowd at New Cuthbury.
Adu-Adjei took his tally for the season to 19 – his haul including no fewer than five goals in three games against Charlton – when he completed the scoring in the 72nd minute.
The in-form striker netted twice against the Addicks in a 4-0 win in the Premier League Cup in September and bagged the only goal when the Cherries triumphed 1-0 against them in the Professional Development League seven days later.
