AFC Bournemouth
AFC Bournemouth under-21s boss Carl Fletcher was pleased with his side's attitude in their Hampshire Senior Cup win over Newport IW FC.
Fletcher's men were 6-0 winners on the Isle of Wight, and he reflected on a positive display from a young side, with six under-18s players starting the game for the Cherries.
ON THE WIN...
We spoke before the game, we were looking for the right attitude towards the game.
We didn't want any complacency. We struggled to get any video or any clips of Newport so we were unsure what we would come up against.
But initially in the first-half we had to be patient and we moved the ball well.
Despite them being down to ten men and the game being done and dusted in the second half, I was really pleased that the lads kept doing the right things - it was a very young side with the majority being under-18s so it's really pleasing.
ON THE UNDER-18S' INVOLVEMENT...
To come to a men's football club and dominate how we did was pleasing.
We want to stretch our young players and get the best out of them. We don't want to give the under-18s game time for the sake of it, they have to be doing well.
With the number of 21s players we have out on loan there's opportunities for them.
The attitude and togetherness of the group was encouraging, there was little prep with everyone training with their respective squads.
The determination to push each other was great, we want the players, whether they've had a bad night's sleep, a long journey, traffic, whatever - that they need to grind out games.
ON MIKAEL NDJOLI...
It's great that Mikael has scored four goals but we want to put the goals to one side.
We're pushing him to improve and there's some things we want him to improve on, but he wants to learn and that's a real hallmark of all our young lads.
We're pleased he wants to work hard to improve and you learn more about the players in the bad days than the good days.
