AFC Bournemouth’s development squad manager Alan Connell insisted the Cherries were keen to support Brentford’s Robert Rowan Invitational, with his side set to take on Brentford B at Gtech Community Stadium on Friday (7pm kick-off).

The friendly will commemorate the life of former Brentford technical director Rowan, who sadly passed away in 2018 due to an undiagnosed heart condition at the age of 28.

All proceeds from the fixture will be donated to fund sports cardiology research at the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals Charity, as part of Brentford’s Heart of West London campaign.

Speaking about the event, Connell told afcb.co.uk: “The most important reason we are going is for the cause. We want to support. Brentford kindly invited us to play in the game.

“It’s a cause that is very relevant for us as a club this season, with Tom Lockyer’s cardiac arrest at our home stadium earlier in the season.

“We are delighted to go and support that cause and hopefully it will be a really good, entertaining game for people to come and watch.”

General admission tickets for the fixture are priced at £3 for adults and £1 for juniors and can be bought here.

Connell added: “For our players, it will be a good experience to play at another Premier League stadium against high-quality opposition, so one they are really looking forward to.

“As a former player of both clubs, it’s a fixture I am looking forward to as well.”
