Brown's belief in development squad ahead of trip to Watford

Lewis Brown said the Cherries development squad remained in a good position in the Professional Development League, with their focus now turning to a trip to Watford on Tuesday.

The midfielder played 90 minutes as Alan Connell’s side bowed out at the last 16 stage of the Premier League Cup on Friday, following a 3-2 defeat to Leeds.

Despite exiting that competition, the Cherries have reached the semi-finals of the Hampshire Senior Cup and sit fourth in the league standings – only a single point behind leaders QPR.

And Brown is keen for Connell’s men to respond when they make the trip to Watford’s training ground (1pm kick-off).

He told afcb.co.uk: “We are in a very good spot in the league.

“We have done very well in the league so far but we can’t dwell on it, or dwell on Friday, we have just got to go again at Watford.

“We are in the Hampshire Senior Cup semi-final as well. We have got to produce in the league like we have so far.”

The Cherries are set to face a Watford side who sit seventh in the division at present, with former left-back Charlie Daniels the lead coach of the Hornets’ under-21 setup.

Daniels, a double promotion winner at Vitality Stadium, took the role of lead coach with Watford’s under-18s in August 2022 before taking up his current role a season later.

And Brown, who has been on the books with the Cherries since he was seven, recalled a fond memory of Daniels from August 2017 as he watched the first team growing up.

“His goal against Man City was an unbelievable strike for a left-back,” said Brown.

“No-one thought he could produce that magic and he did on the day. I remember seeing it on the TV.

“He was passionate, aggressive, an out and out left-back and he just loved the club through and through.

“You don’t just look up to Daniels, you’ve got Junior Stanislas who is at the club now, you’ve got loads.

“You want to be those players, the legends of the club. I’ve been here since I was seven and hopefully, one day, I can go all the way through."
