With just over a week left until the development squad hosts Derby County in the Premier League Cup, Matt Burgess has his eyes firmly fixed on the clash.
The Rams travel to Vitality Stadium on Friday 23rd September for a 7pm kick-off in the Cherries’ second game of group B.
Shaun Cooper’s team will be looking to follow up an excellent start in the Premier League Cup after a 3-0 victory away to Brighton in the competition’s opener.
Burgess told afcb.co.uk ahead of Derby’s visit: “It’s a massive game for us. It’s the second match of the group stage, so we’re preparing for that now.
“We’ll rest, recuperate and recover following the Hampshire Senior Cup game and then see what Derby are all about.”
The cup tie offers Cherries supporters the chance to see the next generation of AFC Bournemouth players in action with tickets available for purchase.
Speaking on the opportunity to play in front of a crowd, the midfielder commented: “It’s always great to play at Vitality Stadium.
“With it being in an international break as well, hopefully we’ll get a good number of fans down there.
“We’ll have to try and put a good show on for them.”
Locking horns with the Rams follows the development squad’s 5-0 victory over Folland Sports in the county cup.
Goals from Burgess, Josh Popoola and a Ben Greenwood hat-trick secured progression to the third round in that competition.
As the scorer of the first goal in the Hampshire Senior Cup tie, Burgess was keen to reaffirm the importance of the cup competitions for his side.
“We always want to progress in every cup we’re in because we don’t have a league,” he said.
“The Premier League Cup and Hampshire Senior Cup are massive for us; we’re always striving to get as far as we can in those competitions.”
