AFC Bournemouth Community Sports Trust marked International Women’s Day 2023, with a Premier League Inspires trip to Fratton Park.
Accompanied by the Premier League Changemakers from Magna Academy, the Community Sports Trust coaches spent Wednesday celebrating International Women’s Day at the League One stadium.
The event showed cased inspirational women, and offered an insight into their different career pathways, and looked at gender equality and women in sport more specifically.
Activities were put on to promote teamwork, body image, confidence whilst also showcasing the different opportunities that girls can have, all run by females representing Hampshire and IOW Fire and Rescue, Hampshire Police Constabulary and the University of Portsmouth’s Treasure Your Chest initiative.
Speaking after the event, Premier League Inspires Project Lead Gareth Williams said, “The day was a fantastic way to celebrate IWD2023 and the PL Changemakers project.”
“Listening to and meeting inspirational females who our group of changemakers can aspire to be like in the future has really embedded the value and impact of the project.”
“It is clear to see the group have improved their leadership skills, resilience and gained confidence in speaking up for gender equality.”
The group of pupils from Magna Academy, have been taking part in the Premier League Inspires and Changemakers programme since September 2022, and throughout their weekly workshops have been focusing on developing their personal skills and positive attitudes for leadership, improving their awareness of gender equality and supporting their own and peers’ mental health.
The group have volunteered their time through community impact sessions at Ad Astra Infant School, where they are Reading Intervention Mentors for Early Year children, listening to them read once a week. Their project has lasted over 20 weeks, and will culminate at Easter with each young person receiving a UNITAR recognised Leadership qualification for their success.
