AFC Bournemouth AFC Bournemouth

Last weekend, all four AFC Bournemouth girls teams returned to action, with three out of the four playing on home soil at Bournemouth School for Girls.

The under-10s, under-12s and under-14s all faced Southampton Saints and played exceptionally well throughout the morning, working hard to produce positive results.

A solid team performance from the under-10s saw some excellent passing play across the pitch.

Kelcey and Tilly, who both played up front were excellent, and created some superb goal-scoring chances for the team.

Meanwhile, the under-12s started brightly and took the lead in the opening minute of the game, through top scorer Lucy.

Emily A. added to the Cherries' goal tally, which was quickly extended by Lucy’s second, third and fourth goal of the game. Throughout the match, the under 12’s dominated play and made some excellent goal-scoring chances, with Emily S. and Maya also getting their names on the scoresheet before the final whistle.

The 7-0-win sees the under-12’s now sitting proudly at the top of the Winchester and District Girls League table, with an impressive six wins out of six.

With the rain calling off their fixture last weekend, the under-14s kicked off their Hampshire Cup campaign with a home fixture. The Cherries started well from kick-off and the game was closely contested, with the ball spending a lot of time in the middle of the pitch.

However, continued pressure from the Saints forwards saw the Cherries concede a goal early in the second half, which just edged the game in their favour. Despite exiting the cup, the girls played superbly and never let their heads drop throughout the fixture.

Finally, it was another strong win the for the under-16s, who were 4-0 victors in their League Cup tie against Down Grange Youth. AFC Bournemouth eldest girls side started the game brightly and showed some positive play passing the ball around well.

The high tempo of the game allowed Lily to score early, after she got on the end of a cross from Erin. As a result, the game opened up for the Cherries, who went on to display some dominant football throughout the first half.

The side scored an additional two goals before the break, with Lily getting her brace and Larissa adding her name to the scoresheet with a majestic run into the eighteen-yard box, finishing a great shot past the Downs Grange goalkeeper.

The second half was played very much in the same vain as the first. AFC Bournemouth continued to dominate the play, forcing the goalkeeper to make several wonderful saves.

Late in the half, Morgan showed her normal determination and forced the ball over the line to get the Cherries’ fourth and final goal.

Summing up another great weekend, Girls and Women’s Development Officer David Staddon told afcb.co.uk, “Another strong weekend from all of our age groups with some exciting football on show.”
