Last weekend was full of mixed results for the AFC Bournemouth Ladies and Girls.

AFC Bournemouth's first team returned to winning ways with an excellent 7-1 win in the Jubilee Cup.

Two of the youth teams also enjoyed good results, whilst there was disappointment in cup fixtures for two other sides.

There was Winchester League Inter Cup quarter-final fixtures to be played for the under-10 and under-14 girls.

The youngest of the two played their fixture at a very chilly Bournemouth School for Girls. After another positive performance, they progress into the semi-final of the competition, where they will play Pompey in the Community in March.

Meanwhile, at a windy Clanfield, the under-14s found themselves leading in the early stages of the game, as Rhiannon scored directly from a corner.

However, the tables soon turned and Clanfield were on top, scoring two goals in quick succession. Bouncing back, Elle scored the equaliser for the Cherries but it wasn’t enough to see the teams level at half time, as Clanfield scored just before the break.

The girls started the second half and worked hard to regain the lead as Elle netted her second of the day from a stunning team move which began in the Bournemouth penalty area. It was finished with Elle producing a cool finish from 12 yards, levelling the score.

AFC Bournemouth continued to push to find a winning goal, but some resolute defending denied any late chances and the game went into penalties.

Clanfield prevailed and won the shoot-out 2-0, after Bournemouth failed to score with all four of their attempts saved.

Cherries ‘keeper Chloe ensured just the four penalties were needed, as she produced two saves to deny the home team.

AFC Bournemouth under-14s exited the Winchester League Inter Cup, much like the Ladies development squad who exited the Hampshire Women’s Invitation Cup on Sunday with a defeat away to Southampton.

In the only league game of the weekend, AFC Bournemouth under-16s registered a 4-2 win over Mudeford Phoenix Girls in a hard-fought game at Bournemouth School for Girls.

The opening period was a fair contest as both teams had plenty of chances. As the half progressed, and the players settled into the game, the Cherries hit Mudeford on the counter attack, with Larissa completing a well taken goal.

Bournemouth continued to press as EJ worked the ball well down the right flank, sending an excellent cross into the box for Erin to double the Cherries lead. This was quickly followed by another from Sofia.

Mudeford started the second half strongly and scored immediately prompting a response from the Cherries.

With 25 minutes to go, AFC Bournemouth broke out of defence, again working well down the right-hand side, the move resulting in Katelyn’s second goal of the season, and AFC Bournemouth’s fourth for the day. Mudeford, however, responded quickly finding the back of the net for a second time.

This win see’s the under-16s remain top of the league, joint on points with Southampton and Pompey in the Community.
