Smith and ESET make a difference in internet safety

AFC Bournemouth AFC Bournemouth

AFC Bournemouth legend Adam Smith’s impact transcends his performances on the pitch, showing his commitment to the local community alongside Community Sports Trust official partner ESET.

Smith, who’s made 318 appearances for the club, is still keen to get involved in community projects by attending St Katharine’s Primary School in Southbourne in order to help ESET spread the message of internet safety.

The classroom-based lesson addressed the children’s most common uses of the internet and develops on the safety features and age ranges for each of these different applications and websites.

On top of that, Smith was on hand to answer questions about the club and his career in an impactful session which provided valuable guidance and support for children’s digital well-being.

Now in their fourth season in partnership with the trust, ESET strives to empower people, from families to businesses, to enjoy technology without the risk of security compromise.

The initiative promotes and celebrates the education of young people regarding internet safety – from cyberbullying to digital identity, it aims to raise awareness of emerging online issues and current concerns.

As well as workbooks for children, ESET provides a range of free content and resources available for schools and parents covering important online safety-related for the next generation topics on their dedicated website.

Smith was enthusiastic about the session, saying: “It’s always great to give back to the community.

“I remember when I was younger, I had a Spurs player come to my school and I was buzzing for months after it, so I think it’s important as players we’re able to be accessible in our local community.

“The lessons ESET and the Community Sports Trust provide are so important in this day and age.

“Everyone is digitally driven with phones and tablets and it’s so important that children are aware of the dangers, but also how to use it constructively in their lives in and out of school.

“I enjoyed the lesson, the kids asked some great questions and as always, I have to give a real credit to the work of the Community Sports Trust in our local community.”

Lina Radwanski, brand and partnership manager at ESET, added: “There’s no escaping how technology plays a huge part in people’s lives.

“And with so many children having access to digital devices, it’s important to equip them the skills and knowledge to use them safely.

“The Community Sports Trust does such a fantastic job in delivering the Safer Kids Online sessions to schools in a fun and engaging way. Having an inspirational player like Adam take part was the cherry on top!”
