Mighty oaks from little acorns grow, just ask Joe Roach.
Under him, player development and youth infrastructure at AFC Bournemouth have gone from strength to strength. His legacy will live on as one of the most highly regarded and respected coaches and managers to have represented the club.
During more than 20 years of loyal service, Roach has overseen a remarkable transformation in the youth department, both on and off the pitch.
Tasked with trying to resurrect a department which had previously been disbanded for financial reasons, Roach was assisted by a couple of office staff and a small team of part-time coaches.
Known as the centre of excellence in those days, the diligent work of Roach and his team established firm foundations, which soon began to bear fruit.
Success stories from the early days included Sam Vokes, Danny Ings and Brett Pitman, a trio of players who all progressed through the ranks to play for the first team. More recently, Baily Cargill became the first academy graduate to feature in the Premier League for the club.
For a small club in a challenging recruitment area, these achievements speak volumes about the focus and determination of the team Roach assembled.
With the backing of the board, Roach has played a significant role in the club being on the verge of improving its academy status and moving to a new training ground.
Everybody at AFC Bournemouth would like to thank Joe for his sterling efforts over the years and wish him all the best for the future.
Speaking on his final day with the club, Joe said: “No football club can exist without committed, passionate supporters and this football club has had the privilege to receive the backing of them in good times and bad.
“Thank you to those of you who have historically supported the club and those who helped keep the academy alive in its early stages of development.”
