Tyrone Mings played his part in Aston Villa’s dramatic 3-1 victory against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough, their sixth win on the trot in the Championship.

John McGinn cancelled out Gary Hooper’s opener for the Owls and the clash looked destined to end all-square after Steven Fletcher had missed a penalty for the hosts.

But Albert Adomah and Tammy Abraham both netted in stoppage-time as the Villans inflicted a first defeat on former boss Steve Bruce since he took over at the start of February.

Marc Pugh bagged his third goal in seven games as Hull City kept alive their Championship play-off hopes with a 3-1 win over struggling Reading at the KCOM Stadium.

Pugh, who celebrated his 32nd birthday six days ago, netted the follow up after Royals goalkeeper Emi Martinez had kept out Jarrod Bowen’s initial effort.

His goal helped the Tigers edge into a 2-1 lead after Kamil Grosicki had cancelled out Chelsea loanee Lewis Baker’s opener for the visitors.

Grosicki added a third to make the points safe before Pugh was replaced by Evandro four minutes from time. Nigel Adkins’ team are five points outside the play-off places.

Connor Mahoney made his 30th appearance for Birmingham as they condemned Premier League hopefuls Leeds to defeat at St Andrew’s.

Che Adams bagged the only goal of the game with Mahoney playing his part in the win before he was replaced by Jota after 76 minutes.

Aaron Ramsdale made his 18th appearance for AFC Wimbledon as they battled out a 1-1 draw with fellow League One strugglers Accrington Stanley at Kingsmeadow.

The Dons, who were looking to move out of the bottom four for the first time since October, took the lead through Joe Pigott after 21 minutes.

Stanley levelled through Jordan Clark and then missed a penalty when Billy Kee fired wide after Scott Wagstaff had been harshly penalised for a foul on Paul Smyth.

Alex Dobre got another 90 minutes under his belt for Yeovil Town in their 1-1 draw with League Two play-off chasers Swindon Town at the County Ground.

Adel Gafaiti’s late leveller earned the Glovers a share of the spoils as they remained outside the drop zone on goal difference with the bottom three all drawing.

Jermain Defoe followed up his goal in Rangers’ midweek win over Hearts by setting up Scott Arfield’s hat-trick strike in their 3-0 victory over Scottish Premiership rivals Motherwell yesterday.

Defoe, who took to six his tally for the Gers when he opened the scoring against Hearts on Wednesday, provided the assist for Arfield’s third with an unselfish pass on the hour at Fir Park.

The triumph saw second-placed Rangers remain eight points clear of Kilmarnock and Aberdeen and cut Celtic's lead at the top to 11 points with five matches remaining.

Mikael Ndjoli came on as a 78th-minute replacement for Chris Burke in Kilmarnock’s 2-0 win over St Johnstone in the Scottish Premiership.

An own goal from Chris Kane and a Kris Boyd effort saw Killie extend to six games their unbeaten run in the top flight. Jason Kerr was sent off for St Johnstone after 68 minutes.

Jordan Holmes was an unused substitute in St Mirren’s 1-1 draw with fellow Scottish Premiership strugglers Hamilton.

Anders Dreyer’s penalty earned St Mirren a share of the spoils as both clubs gained a point on bottom-placed Dundee.

Charlie Seaman was an unused substitute as second-placed Dundee United drew 1-1 with Scottish Championship leaders Ross County at Victoria Park on Friday.

Keelan O’Connell was an unused substitute in Greenock Morton’s 1-1 draw at Queen of the South in the Scottish Championship.

Brad Smith featured as Seattle Sounders continued their club record-breaking start to a Major League Soccer season by beating Real Salt Lake 1-0 at CenturyLink Field.

Nicolas Lodeiro bagged the only goal in the 18th minute as unbeaten Sounders made it four wins and a draw from their first five games.

Defender Shaun Hobson made his third start for Eastleigh in their 4-2 defeat by fellow National League high-fliers AFC Fylde at Mill Farm.

Goals from Alex Wynter and Paul McCallum gave the Spitfires a 2-0 lead before the Coasters hit back to take the points.

Hobson was replaced by Chris Zebroski immediately after Fylde had scored their fourth goal through Alex Reid in the 78th minute.

Tyler Cordner played the full 90 minutes in Havant & Waterlooville’s 2-1 defeat by Harrogate Town at Westleigh Park.

The reverse left Lee Bradbury’s team 21st in the National League, nine points adrift of safety with only 12 points to play for.

Frank Vincent replaced Kalvin Kalala in the 75th minute of Torquay United’s eventful 3-3 draw with fellow National South high-fliers Woking at Kingfield.

Vincent entered the fray with the Gulls trailing 3-1 before goals in the final 10 minutes from Saikou Janneu and Ben Wynter earned them a point.

Torquay, who were roared on by more than 1,400 travelling supporters, are seven points clear at the top with just four games remaining.

Also in National South, defender Corey Jordan featured for Eastbourne Borough in their 2-1 defeat by Gloucester City at Priory Lane.

Jake Scrimshaw came off the bench to net a potentially-crucial winner for Poole Town in their 2-1 victory at Farnborough Town in Southern Premier South.

Scrimshaw replaced Cherries teammate Tom Hanfrey in the 73rd minute and bravely headed home the decider as the contest approached injury-time.

Hanfrey impressed at left-back for the Dolphins, while James Boote was an unused substitute. The win left Poole just three points shy of the play-off places.

Sam Sherring helped Weymouth keep another clean sheet as they forged seven points clear at the top of Southern Premier South following a 4-0 win over Staines at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

Former Cherries youngster Brandon Goodship bagged all four goals for the Terras, while Sherring went close to scoring only to be denied by a fine save from the Staines goalkeeper.

Brennan Camp was an unused substitute for Weymouth who have four games remaining, starting with a trip to Beaconsfield Town on Saturday.
