Kyle Taylor returned as Southend United breathed life into their season with a 1-0 win over Scunthorpe United on Saturday.

Cherries loanee Taylor has been absent with injury in recent weeks, but was back at Roots Hall and appeared in the 62nd minute ahead of the side scoring their decisive winner with ten minutes remaining.

In front of 2,000 supporters in Essex, James Olayinka's well-taken low strike won three crucial points for Mark Molesley's men, up to nine points in League Two and within four of safety.

In the same game, defender Tyler Cordner was named as a substitute but didn't come on for the Iron.

There was a clean sheet and another important point gained for Sam Sherring as league-leading Torquay United extended their advantage at the top of the National League.

The 20-year-old centre-back started for the Gulls in their goalless draw away at King's Lynn Town, ending the side's run of four straight wins but stretching their unbeaten streak to six.

Defeat for Sutton means Sherring's side are now six points clear of the pack as they target a return to the Football League.

There were starts from defenders Corey Jordan and Brennan Camp in the same division as Weymouth looked to arrest their recent run away to promotion-chasing Wealdstone.

Ben Thomson gave the Terras the lead at Grosvenor Vale but goals just before and just after the half-time break swung the game in Wealdstone's favour, Brian Stock's side falling to a 2-1 loss.

In League Two Jake Scrimshaw was an unused substitute as Walsall picked up a good 2-1 home win over Bolton Wanderers to lift themselves to 11th in the table.

Zeno Ibsen Rossi was on the bench but unused as Kilmarnock lost 1-0 away at Parkhead to champions Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.
