Christian Saydee played a key role in helping Shrewsbury Town register a first home league win over Bolton Wanderers since 1983.

The striker had a hand in Town’s opener before bagging his third goal of the season as Steve Cotterill’s team came from behind to see off high-flying Wanderers.

Saydee held off two players before his neat flick released Jordan Shipley who provided the assist for Crystal Palace loanee Rob Street to score his first goal for the club after just 87 seconds.

Although Northern Ireland international Dion Charles levelled soon after and then fired the visitors ahead from the penalty spot in the second half, Saydee struck to restore parity 11 minutes from time.

The 20-year-old reacted quickest after Chey Dunkley had headed Tom Flanaghan’s cross into the danger zone, Saydee sweeping home the ball from close range.

Defender Dunkley settled a see-saw contest in favour of the hosts when he headed the winner two minutes into added time, propelling Town into tenth place in League One.

Saydee marked his full debut for Shrewsbury by netting his first goal in the Football League in a 2-1 defeat at Port Vale in September before netting in a 2-1 win over Burton Albion seven days later.

He has made 17 appearances for Cotterill’s team since arriving at Montgomery Waters Meadow after playing his part in the Cherries’ penalty shootout victory over Norwich in the Carabao Cup.

In an interview with the Shrewsbury Town website, Saydee said: “As a striker, when you’re not scoring, your confidence probably drops sometimes.

“But I think with this team, they’re always pushing you and letting you know that you are still doing a lot for the team. So, the goals for me and Rob Street really helped our confidence.”

And asked how much he was enjoying his time with the Shropshire club, Saydee replied: “I like it a lot. I have gelled well with everyone and it feels like I have been here for a long time.

“Everyone has just shown me love, so it’s just brilliant and I know I am in a good place.”
