Nathan Moriah-Welsh netted a stunning third goal of the season in Newport County’s 2-1 defeat by fellow League Two strugglers Crawley Town.

Moriah-Welsh came off the bench in the 61st minute at Broadfield Stadium as the Exiles trailed to goals either side of half-time from James Tilley and Ashley Nadesan at Broadfield Stadium.

And after a cross from Mickey Demetriou had been headed away, the midfielder seized on the loose ball before despatching a thunderous strike past Reds goalkeeper David Robson from 25 yards.

Moriah-Welsh, who replaced Robbie Willmott in the second half, added to his goals in a 2-1 win over Tranmere in August and a 1-1 draw against Carlisle last month.

Despite some late pressure, Newport were unable to find an equaliser and slipped to 19th place, just two points above second-from-bottom Crawley.

Both clubs had parted company with their respective managers in the lead up to the game, James Rowberry leaving Newport and former Cherries loan player Kevin Betsy dismissed by Crawley.

Guyana international Moriah-Welsh, who featured for the Cherries against Yeovil and Boreham Wood in the FA Cup last season, has made 14 appearances for the Welsh club.

Meanwhile, Noa Boutin’s work experience loan with National League South strugglers Weymouth has ended and the teenager has returned to Vitality Stadium.
