Loan Watch: Glover helps Shots take derby spoils

Ryan Glover played his part as Aldershot Town pulled further clear of the National League relegation zone with a dramatic 3-2 win over local rivals Woking at the Laithwaite Community Stadium on Sunday.

The teams renewed rivalries just seven days after sharing the points from a pulsating 1-1 draw at the EBB Stadium where Max Kretzschmar’s penalty deep in added time earned the Cards a draw.

But the boot was on the other foot as the Shots started 2022 with a potentially-priceless victory thanks to former Cherries striker Mikael Ndjoli’s injury-time winner.

Glover was one of six changes made by Aldershot manager Mark Molesley following their narrow 1-0 defeat at Dagenham & Redbridge on Tuesday.

And he went close to scoring after Kretzschmar’s seventh-minute opener had been cancelled out by Jayden Harris’s well-taken header just 60 seconds after the break.

But both Glover and Jacob Berkeley-Agyepong were unable to take their chances and Kretzschmar’s penalty in the 71st minute gave the hosts the lead for the second time.

The points looked destined to be shared for the second time in a week when Corie Andrews restored parity from the penalty sport with just two minutes remaining.

But Ndjoli came off the bench to settle an absorbing derby in favour of the visitors, the striker’s volley squeezing in at the near post to send wild Shots fans among a crowd of 5,171.

Glover, who was replaced by Tommy Willard eight minutes from time, has started seven of Aldershot’s past eight games, winning five and drawing two.

Connor Kurran-Browne made his National League debut in King’s Lynn Town’s narrow 1-0 defeat at the hands of leaders Chesterfield on Saturday.

Frontman Kurran-Browne replaced defender Luis Fernandez five minutes from time as King’s Lynn chased a late equaliser at The Technique Stadium.

But the Linnets were unable to find a way through, with Liam Mandeville’s goal six minutes into the second half seeing the Spireites open a three-point lead at the top of the table.

Kurran-Browne, who featured in King’s Lynn’s FA Trophy win over Nantwich Town before Christmas, will be hoping for more game time when they host Woking on Saturday.

LEAGUE TWO

Jake Scrimshaw came off the bench during the closing stages of Scunthorpe United’s 1-0 defeat by fellow strugglers Carlisle United at Sands Venue Stadium.

Scrimshaw made his 19th appearance for the Iron when he replaced Jai Rowe after 71 minutes and with the hosts trailing to Rod McDonald’s goal five minutes before the break.

Defender McDonald headed home his first goal for almost five years after meeting Callum Guy’s corner, his effort putting daylight between the Cumbrians and the relegation zone.

Scunthorpe dominated possession but without creating much in the way of clear-cut chances with Scrimshaw seeing a late effort deflect off a team-mate for a goal-kick.

SOUTHERN PREMIER SOUTH

Jack Seddon made his debut for Poole Town in their incident-packed 3-1 win over Southern Premier South neighbours Wimborne Town on Saturday.

Seddon, a member of the Cherries development squad, replaced Sam Jackson in the 75th minute and with the Dolphins leading 3-0 at the Black Gold Stadium.

The clash was marred by a serious knee injury to former Cherries youngster Dan Strugnell which resulted in a lengthy delay as he received medical attention.

Strugnell, who sustained his injury after landing awkwardly, was detained overnight in hospital and tweeted on Sunday to express his gratitude to everyone who helped him.

Makeshift striker Will Spetch netted a hat-trick of headers to give Poole a commanding half-time lead, his third goal coming after Bouwe Bosma had been sent off for Wimborne for picking up two bookings in quick succession.

Curtis Young, one of a number of ex-Cherries players on the pitch, bagged Wimborne’s consolation in front of a bumper Bank Holiday crowd of 1,067.

NATIONAL LEAGUE SOUTH

Euan Pollock will be hoping to make an immediate impression after stepping up a level to join National South outfit Hungerford Town on a work experience loan.

The striker spent the first half of the season with Southern Premier South Truro City, netting three times in 18 appearances, including eight from the bench, in all competitions.

Pollock, who scored twice in the Cherries’ Premier League Cup win over West Brom last month, could feature when the Crusaders host Hampton & Richmond Borough at Bulpit Lane on Monday (3pm).
