National Careers Week is a celebration of careers guidance and free resources in education across the UK.

Its aim is to provide a focus for careers guidance activity and, during National Careers Week, we are highlighting the work of AFC Bournemouth’s Community Sports Trust who have recently developed two programmes focused around improving skills and confidence for participants looking to gain employment.

Employ-Able is a programme that looks to offer those not in education or employment, or classed as economically inactive, the opportunity to learn new skills and become more employer ready, for a role within the sports industry.

It involves the opportunity for participants to access industry recognised qualifications, take part in workshops complete work experience and work with coaches to establish exit routes into employment, training or education.

The Community Sports Trust's Next Gen programme aims to provide opportunities to develop and support the next generation of aspiring football coaches throughout grassroots football clubs.

The programme recognises the need for more local volunteer coaches to support player development locally. This  project aims to recruit individuals (aged 16+ years, from a diverse range of backgrounds) and offer a bespoke training programme to influence and inspire them as coaches.

In turn, these selected individuals will enhance their employability, learn new skills and make a positive contribution to the quality and aspirations of players through local clubs.

Since their conception, the programmes have engaged over 170 people from across Dorset and have supported seven participants who were previously not in education or employment into full-time and part-time work.

It was great to have participants from both the programmes in attendance for Saturday’s game against Derby County.

For more information about either of the projects contact Community Senior Manager, Andrew Battison on [email protected].
