Cherries Repicked a must-watch for Brett

AFC Bournemouth AFC Bournemouth

Brett Pitman admitted he would be glued to afcb.co.uk tonight to watch a re-run of AFC Bournemouth’s unforgettable 5-1 win at Fulham in 2015.

The Championship showdown played out at Craven Cottage is the second in our Cherries Repicked series and will be live streamed on the official AFC Bournemouth YouTube channel at 7pm.

Pitman played a starring role as five-star Cherries penned another chapter in the club’s record books on a night to remember beside The Thames.

Eddie Howe’s team treated a Sky Sports audience to a feast of scintillating football, laced with goals of the highest order – none more so than Pitman’s exquisite solo strike.

The striker embarked on an electrifying run from inside his own half and held off the Fulham defence before curling a left-foot shot past Cottagers goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli.

His stunning goal put the Cherries 3-0 ahead and added to his first-half opener and Matt Ritchie’s well-taken 37th-minute effort.

Ritchie made it 4-1 after Matt Smith had reduced the arrears before Steve Cook rounded off the scoring with a sensational fifth goal late on.

It earned the Cherries a tenth away win of the season, seeing the club bring up double figures on the road for only the sixth time since they joined the Football League in 1923.

Victory also saw them return to the Championship summit and reach 66 points – their total for the previous season – on their way to winning promotion to the Premier League.

Pitman told afcb.co.uk: “I wouldn’t miss it for the world and will be tuning in to the live stream on YouTube.

“I’ve have seen highlights here and there but have never watched the full 90 minutes so am looking forward to it.

“It was one of the favourite games of my career and my second goal was up there with the best I’ve ever scored.

“As a team, we played ever so well that night. Taking into account it was in the Championship, you don’t see that too often at that level.

“It was a very special night, both for the players and the supporters.

“We scored some good goals. The first one was an excellent team goal and mine made it 3-0 which probably finished off the game and made the second half very enjoyable.

“Cookie rounded it off with an unbelievable strike for the fifth which capped a memorable all-round team performance on our way to winning promotion. They were great times.”
