Last weekend saw all four Cherries girls age groups play fixtures, with three teams playing within the League Inter-Cup Fixtures, and the under 16’s looking to continue the positive league form in the Winchester and District Girls League.
AFC Bournemouth’s youngest age group the under 10’s played Eastleigh in the first round of their competition. Coach, Steve Davies commented that “this was the best performance of the season so far”, with his side working hard throughout their game.
The Under 12’s recorded their biggest win of the season so far, with five girls getting their names on the scoresheet, including debutant Emily. S. Georgia and Lucy, both in their second year of Under 12’s football, scored hattricks during this fixture, with many of their finishes being clever and calmly executed.
The final Inter-Cup fixture of the day saw the Cherries Under 14’s face local side, New Milton Town. Despite a fantastic finish from Kitty, the Cherries were not able to stop the New Milton side from scoring, and recorded a 3-1 loss to the Linnets.
The final fixtures for the Cherries Girls side, saw the Under 16’s retain their current unbeaten form in the league, with an excellent 6-0 win against New Milton Town Under 16’s.
Braces from Morgan and Larissa, combined with solo efforts from Erin and Roza confirmed another three points for the Cherries oldest youth age group. The girls put in pleasing display, passing the ball well throughout the full 80 minutes.
Girls and Women’s Development Officer, David Staddon commented, “It is great to see all our teams competing strongly in all matches and credit must go to all players for consistently demonstrating the AFC Bournemouth philosophy throughout their games.”
AFC Bournemouth Ladies Development Squad were also in action over the weekend. Playing Southampton Ladies at the Saint’s First Team Training Ground, this game looked to be a tough test, with Southampton currently sitting second in the Hampshire Women’s Division One Table.
A disappointing first half saw the Cherries Ladies go in at half time, 2-0 down. However, a change in formation helped towards a much improved second half performance and the Cherries looked to get more into the game, however weren’t able to find the strikers with their forward play. Southampton scored one final goal to consolidate their win at the end of the game.
Summarising the whole weekend, Head of Community Steve Cuss added, “It was again a fantastic weekend of football with all six of the teams enjoying competitive games.”
“The Girls and Women’s Programme continues to grow with opportunities for players to enjoy the weekly training sessions through to competitive fixtures.”
