All four goals came in a hectic opening 25 minutes at the Dons' training ground in south London, Sam Surridge giving the visitors an early lead with a penalty before later levelling the scores after Wimbledon had taken the lead.

Despite a series of chances in the second period, the Cherries were unable to claim a decisive third to win the league match.

"From a spectator's point of view I'm sure it was good to watch," Purches told afcb.co.uk. "We needed to be better in both boxes. With the goals we conceded we knew what was coming; AFC Wimbledon is always a great test for us as a group of players.

"We were disappointed with the goals we conceded but pleased with the second goal we scored: a really good team goal of the sort we've been working on for a while in regards to the sorts of movements we're making.

"We are also a bit disappointed in not finishing off some of the other chances we created. You want to get the three points because we created the chances to do that.

"A few years ago we'd have come here and found life hard. It's a young group, they're learning the game and just trying to find the right way to be able to play and stick to the philosophies that we'e trying to go through.

"Overall, for the majority of the game the lads stuck with what we're trying to do, the only disappointment is with the goals that we conceded."

Surridge followed up his two goals in last week's friendly win over Reading with another double in the capital, and his manager says he is pleased with his striker's development.

"His progression has been great and his overall work ethic is fantastic and he wants to get better every day. Those are the types of players that you want to work with," Purches commented.

"He typifies the squad, what they do and how they want to achieve it. He loves scoring goals and we all love a goalscorer; he just needs to carry on doing what he's doing."

With the window now open again for loan moves, Purches spoke about the chances of his players leaving temporarily during January.

"It has to suit both clubs and it has to suit the individual," he said. "There has to be a reason why, it can't be just putting players out on loan and letting them deal with things.

"We've had quite a lot of contact from clubs regarding players but we'll just have to wait and see which players move and which one don't. We've got to look to the future and there's lots to think about."
