AFC Bournemouth regained second place in the Championship thanks to a hard-earned 2-0 win over struggling Derby County at Vitality Stadium on Saturday.

Goals from leading marksman Dominic Solanke and substitute Jamal Lowe saw the Cherries claim their first win over the Rams since January 1985.

Solanke paved the way for victory when he drew first blood in stoppage time at the end of the first half with Jaidon Anthony the architect.

Anthony’s jinking run saw him nutmeg two Derby defenders before Solanke prodded the ball home from close range after it had bounced up off Eiran Cashin.

It was Solanke’s 22nd goal of the season and the striker played a key role in the Cherries’ second goal in the final minute.

His thunderous strike was parried by former Cherries goalkeeper Ryan Allsop with Lowe on hand to finish with accuracy, his fourth goal in his past five games.

The win saw Scott Parker’s team leapfrog Huddersfield Town and move two points above the Terriers, their opponents on Saturday 19th March.
